Although it has been seven years since I’ve worried about meeting my boyfriends parents, I still remember the first time I did. I was in high school and Jamie and I were in Zellers (now Target). It was actually around the Holidays, so his parents were shopping for Christmas presents and we bumped into them. They offered to drive me home and all I can remember is that I got a major case of the giggles in the back of their car. Although it probably wasn’t the best of first impressions, they must have liked me, because I have been to countless family events since. For those of you who are going to be meeting your significant others parents this holiday season, here are a few tips on what to wear from #MerryMag.

Meeting your significant others parents for the first time can be intimidating, especially around the holidays, when emotions are running high. When planning what to wear, you want to find the perfect balance between festive, stylish and conservative. Impressing parents with the latest fashion trends shouldn’t be the main goal, as you want your amazing personality to shine. Opt for an outfit that mixes festive colors, and a fun pattern, like these hounds tooth pants. A statement necklace will also keep the look from being too stuffy. Black pumps always look great, but if the event is more casual go for flats or ankle boots.
