While picking up a few groceries for meals last week I happened to run right into the huge display of fresh Ontario peaches in the produce section. Fresh, local peaches are my absolute favorite summer fruit so I couldn’t wait to get them home to eat. The box of peaches was just on the brink of becoming fully ripened and like I said I really wanted to eat them, so I decided to cut them in half and throw them on the barbecue for a little pre-dinner snack. I’d made grilled peaches earlier this summer for Jamie’s birthday but since these were local peaches the flavor after they came off the hot fire was so much more intense and juicy…the ultimate summer treat.

Ingredients
- Local peaches if possible, halved
- Drizzle of olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Balsamic reduction
- Fresh basil
Instructions
- Cut peaches in half and remove the cores seed.
- Brush or drizzle a small amount of olive oil over the peaches and season with a little bit of salt and pepper.
- Turn barbecue on a low setting so that the flames are just barley hitting the grill
- Place peaches flesh side down and close the barbecue. Grill the peaches for about 15 minutes or until softened, turning them over frequently to make sure they aren’t burning.
- Remove peaches from the grill and place on a platter for serving.
- Drizzle balsamic reduction over top and garnish with fresh basil.
