How I Motivated Myself To Workout & My Workout Routine

April 26, 2018

I’ve officially been working out for 3 months which is a huge milestone for me. Truthfully, the last time I had a workout routine that lasted more than a month was when I played soccer in elementary school…and that was almost 15 years ago! I’ve always had a slim figure, but after years of not being physically active (aside from a workout class here and there) my 26-year old body started to feel the effects. I was sore all of the time because I was stagnant for most of the day (working from home will do that) I was sluggish and moody and the final straw was that I was putting on unnecessary weight around my midsection. I started going to the chiropractor for back pain relief but I knew deep down that the pain was because I barely moved and I didn’t have much muscle. To put all of this quite simply, I did not feel good about my body and I needed to make a change.

My sister, Rae, was actually the one who found the HASFIT videos that we both started doing together mid-January. We started on the beginner videos which required no equipment and lasted around 18-20 minutes. At first, I could barely make it through the workouts. I was tired, sore and unmotivated. BUT something switched around the 3-4 week mark. I would find myself craving my workout and wanted to do more. I’ve since mixed up my routine to include 20, 30, 40 minute HIIT workouts that include weights and I LOVE how I am feeling. I don’t workout every day, especially if I’m sore the next day, but I make it a point to go no more than 2 days without doing a HIIT workout. Also, since the weather has started to warm up, I’ve been biking with Jamie which I find supplements the days where I don’t feel like doing squats, lunges and push-ups!

Another huge lifestyle change I’ve made is you guessed it, my diet. I have incorporated so many more whole foods into my diet and have, for the most part, cut out dairy and gluten. I also don’t eat red meat but this was a change I made over a year ago. However, I definitely do not deprive myself of anything if I want it. If I go out to dinner, I’ll eat whatever I’m feeling and not feel guilty about it. On the flip side, if I’m home and want a treat that includes dairy, sugar or carbs, I’ll eat it too. I basically go by an 80/20 rule where most of the time I’m eating healthy but there’s that 20% where I indulge because I sure do love my treats. I also stopped grabbing quick things like lattes and pastries when I’m out and instead try to bring water and an RX bar with me. If I do want a drink, I’ll get a tea and that usually cuts any other craving I’m having. Oh, and I started drinking the Pure Leaf ginger with orange blossom tea when I’m home in the afternoon and craving something sweet I LOVE how it tastes and it relaxes my tummy. If that doesn’t cut it, I’ll eat an apple with some almond butter or cinnamon.

Finally, the last thing that motivates this gal to workout is cute workout gear. I mean, how could you not want to get your body moving when there are so many cute things to work out in!? I recently found a ton of great pieces at Joe Fresh which makes me so happy because they’re also SO affordable. This blue floral set reminded me of floral wallpaper and I just fell in love with it. The set is bright, playful and so cheery. Working out becomes even better when I feel like I’m looking good…who else is with me!?

Anyway! I think that’s it for me. I wasn’t expecting this post to be so long but I felt like there was a lot to talk about when it came to what I’ve done for my health and fitness. Please feel free to leave me a comment or send me an e-mail at kaylee@theblondielocks.com if you want to know more about my fitness routine or are just curious about anything. I’d love to start talking more about fitness (not that I’m an expert) so I’d be so happy to hear what you’d want to read!
