Gold Mirror DIY

A few weeks back I posted about the shoe rack that Jamie and I created out of wooden boards. As you can see in the pictures from that post, after the shoe rack was completed we were left with a sad looking black mirror hanging above. I felt like the mirror didn’t fit with the shoe racks modern ombre design, and it needed a little something to update it. I spruced up the mirror with simple DIY, using my go-to spray paint, and added some hooks for our keys. I absolutely love the way it turned out and now smile with pride every time I walk into our entry way.

What you will Need:

1. Gold spray paint
2. Wall hooks available at any hardware store
3. Painters tape
4. Styrofoam block
5.  Ruler
6. Pencil
7. Drill

2Step 1: Using your painters tape, tape horizontally across the entirety of the mirror.

Step 2: Rip off any excess tape on the wooden part of the mirror. If any tape comes off the glass go back and carefully re-tape it, making sure it is all covered.

Step 3: Lay down a large piece of cardboard outside and begin spray painting the mirror in a slow even motion. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next coat. You will have to do about 3 coats of gold spray paint for full, non splotchy coverage.

Step 4: Using your foam block insert the screws inside, and place the hooks facing down. If your foam block has little holes and crevices like mine did, they can lay down.

Step 5: Spray paint the screws and hooks slowly and evenly ensuring that the hooks are covered completely. The screws only need to be sprayed on the head.

5

Step 6: Measure out how far apart you will want your hooks to be and mark off with a pencil so that everything will be straight and even. Of course measurements will differ for every mirror.

Step 7: Tightly hold the hook in place and drill the screws into the mirror
