Below, Lesley from Blare June teaches us how to acknowledge and embrace the benefits that come along with riding solo and being your own date to a wedding!
Although attending a wedding, work event or a dinner party alone may have its obvious perks, it can get old very quickly. Instead of responding ‘Unable to Attend’ to the next event, there are ways you can make the most out of attending a wedding unaccompanied this summer. Below are four perks to reflect on as you head out solo to an upcoming event!
- Treat yo’ self: Just because your upcoming dinner reservation was made for one doesn’t mean you shouldn’t invest in a special dress! As women, we often dress to impress others or to adhere to a specific dress code. Being your own date is the perfect opportunity to shift this mindset and start dressing for you! Go ahead and splurge on that item you’ve tried on multiple times at your favorite local boutique. And be sure to treat yourself to a blowout or book a manicure at a hot new nail salon. If cash flow is low at the moment, don’t fret! At-home spa days are another way to be kind to yourself without breaking the bank. It’s time we invest in the dates we can have with ourselves!
- Let your inner social butterfly soar: Now that you’re all dolled up, it’s time to let your inner social butterfly soar. We all have one, trust me—some are just suppressed. You never know whom you might meet at an upcoming social event. Riding solo is the perfect time to find out. Showing up to an event with your besties, squad or significant other is certainly less anxiety provoking. However, stepping outside of your comfort zone and engaging in conversations you wouldn’t normally have is where the magic happens! You never know—you might just meet your new boss, a new friend or be invited to a killer after-party! The world is your oyster.
- A Cinderella moment: Life may not always be a fairy tale, but one of these times it might just be! Heading to an event without a plus-one may lead you down a path you might never have had the chance to explore. Embrace the idea of sitting next to the bride’s cousin who is in town for the wedding or her colleague she thinks you’ll ‘click’ with. You never know where such a careful seating arrangement can lead. Don’t get discouraged. It may take a summer of weddings and kissing a few frogs before you meet your prince charming. But your prince or princess awaits you!
- Brunch it up: The next day, be sure to enjoy brunch and reflect on the night before. Perhaps you’ve made a new friend, confirmed a date for next weekend or simply enjoyed the party looking and feeling your best. Regardless of last night’s outcome, the tradition of brunch after a night out still stands. There are many perks of heading to brunch solo. You can check out the new Instagram-worthy café you’ve been eyeing and enjoy less time awaiting a coveted seat. And the biggest perk of all: The endless non-disrupted hours of people-watching to be had. Eat up, drink up and enjoy your own company!
