We've seen penny tile floors before, but never anything like this. It turns out you can create some pretty incredible patterns by varying newer, shinier coins with more worn ones. This DIY penny floor is from Pretty Purple Door; you can see more photos of its construction at Houzz. Apartment Therapy reader Amanda also did this in her bathroom, and created an incredibly helpful guide to making your own. You'll need about $3 worth of coins per square foot.

This DIY pallet floor is from 1001 Pallets. You can find more detailed instructions for creating a pallet floor on 99 Pallets. (Wood from reclaimed pallets can be significantly cheaper than storebought wood flooring, but be sure to make sure the pallets are safe to use in your home before you start cutting them up.)
