Our lifestyle contributor, Erin Sousa, is sharing a bit of her floral-arranging magic with us today with her beautiful blooming spring floral installation.
Is anyone else as floral-obsessed as I am? Seriously, one look at my Instagram, and you’d think I was a florist in my last life. I wanted to bring the outdoors indoors this spring, and this blooming DIY is the perfect unique way to do just that! This would be a fabulous party backdrop, or even just a pretty way to display dried florals! The concept is simple: String blooms around twine and tape it to the wall. Magic!
Blooming Spring Floral Installation
SUPPLIES:
- Jute twine
- Washi tape
- Flowers (I used a mixture of seasonal spring blooms from Flower Factory—peonies, ranunculus, quince and greenery—but you can use almost any flower you fancy!)
- Scissors
DIRECTIONS:
- Measure the twine against the space you want to cover, and leave extra length because you’ll need to twist the slack around the stems of your blooms.
- Start by trimming the stems of the blooms to about five inches, but leave as many leaves as you can because these will be used for stability for the twine.
- Tape each side of the twine to the wall, leaving a lot of slack in the middle.
- Place your flower stem against the twine, and twist the twine around the stem. Once if feels secure, you’re done. As you build, you’ll need to do this more delicately so as to not disturb the other flowers.
- Continue the process, deciding on the flow of the colors as you go. Have fun with it—there’s no right or wrong way!
- The flowers have no water source, so they will wilt with time. Avoid putting this up too far in advance for this reason.
- Step back and take stock of your design as you go! Isn’t it pretty?!
