Watermelon Margaritas

Working in the Distillery District is tough, merely for the fact that on a daily basis I have to walk past delicious smelling bakery’s and restaurants and attempt to resist temptation (I rarely do.) El Catrin in particular, which is right beside me, boasts not only one of the best patios in Toronto, but also the best watermelon margarita I have ever had. Because my wallet can’t afford to head over there every time I get a craving, I decided to re-create this margarita at home. Using fresh watermelon, lime and tequila I conjured up a watermelon margarita that will keep me away from El Catrin for at least a little bit.

What You Will Need:

1. Watermelon
2. 1 lime per drink
3. Tequila
4. Agave Nectar
5. Citrus Press (optional)

Step 1: Cut up small cubes of watermelon and put them aside in the freezer about an hour before. These will later replace your ice cubes

Step 2: Rim glasses with sugar by pouring granulated sugar onto a plate and some lime juice into a bowl. Dip your glass into the lime just and then into the sugar covering the rim completely.

Step 3: Place a strainer over a bowl and fill it with cubes of water melon. With a muddler smash the watermelon until the bowl is filled with as much juice as you need to make a glass. For 4 drinks I used a quarter of a watermelon

Step 4: Put your watermelon ice cubes in your glass and add one shot of tequila and about 1 teaspoon of agave nectar.

Step 5: Using a citrus press or your hands, squeeze the juice of 1 lime into your glass

Step 6: Top with watermelon juice
